An Observation: A less obvious reason why McCain picked Sarah Palin.

Filed under: Editwhorial — EJ @ 4:09 pm

Watching an MSNBC special about Sarah Palin, one of her friends said, referring to Palin not informing her family or friends about her nomination, “She’s good at keeping a secret. She sure did keep this one.” Hearing this got me to thinking.

If you think about it reasonably, logically, the American people desire a move towards transparent government. Does this represent transparent, honest government? A woman who:

– elopes instead of announcing her marriage
– waits six months before telling anyone that she is pregnant
– tries to hide the pregnancy of her teen daughter
– categorically denies that she ever supported “The Bridge to Nowhere” in the face of concrete proof to the contrary
– provides misleading statements to the public regarding her record as both mayor and governor

The Republicans are thrilled to have Sarah Palin because she is willing and able to keep secrets and lie for them. What’s more, she’s obviously very good at doing this — perfect smokescreen. I am basing this entirely on her own actions and record, and I hope that the media will begin to take her to task for this pattern of deception in both her public life and her personal life. Hey, I understand keeping a secret to protect innocent people. But keeping secrets impulsively and consistenly?

I guess that’s what it means to be a politician, right?
