Andrew Jackson, All I’m Asking…Show Us The Wheel And Give Us The Wine

So here I sit in Nashville with my dear friend Cookie. We are trying to out geek each other by literally sitting laptop to laptop, both IM-ing, updating, reading emails. It’s a very class act, let me tell you. I’ll be here for a couple of days doing a commercial for some car company or something. I don’t know, I only know I get to be here with Cookie and her kitty cat Kinsey for a few days. Although, truth be told, we will be off doing the commercial so much I’m sure this is the quality time that I will get.

I drove all the way here listening to Sufjan Stevens and thinking to myself how much I love the album Illinois. It’s one of the few all-purpose albums that I own, and it’s wonderful to sing my American History class to myself as I contemplate whether or not to chase down the semi that cut me off.

I thought of some questions I have. For starters, I’d like to know what business it is of Conor’s why if one hates the taste of wine they drink it until they’re blind? I’d like to know how does one manage to fall asleep after drinking a pot of coffee? Why is it xo instead of ox, being that I prefer to hug first and then kiss? I’d like to know if you’ve seen the movie Waiting… and if you can relate to it? I saw it last night and laughed my head off because, yes, I have waited tables before.

So as I fade into sleep listening to the refrains of Josh Rouse’s ephemeral “Streetlights” (from the album Nashville of course, duh), I’m going to say a prayer for all those people whom I unintentionally lured into the job I just quit (I’m sorry, if I had known I would have warned you). Memphis, I love you and I miss you already (even though I’m not really gone).
